American Brown Ale


This my first recipe. the color is on the dark side for a brown ale. It should be close to British browns. The aroma is great. I just racked this on Jan 18,2013.


  • Munton's Nut brown Ale Hopped kit ( comes with dry yeast)
  • Briess dried Malt extract- Sparkling amber- 1 lb.
  • UK Fuggle pellet hops- 1 oz.
  • Chocolate malt 1/2 lb.
  • Victory grain 1 lb.
  • brown sugar 1 lb
  • corn sugar 5 oz.

Additional Instructions

Primary Ferment: 1 week
Secondary Ferment: 3 weeks

heat 1 1/2 gallons of water to steeping and steep grain for 20 minutes.

remove from heat add LME, DME & brown sugar.

Bring to a boil for 60 minutes. During last 2 minutes add hops.

Pour wort into fermenter and add cold water to make 5 gallons.

After wort is below 80 degrees pitch yeast.

I did primary fermenting 1 week secondary 3 week.

Use 5 oz. of corn sugar to prime
