American IPA

Description:

I wanted something that would punch you in the mouth. And then the nose.

So here you go....

Ingredients:

  • 12 lbs 2 Row Pale Malt
  • 1.5 lbs Crystal 15L
  • 1.5 lbs Rye Malt
  • 1.5 lbs Victory Malt
  • 1 lb Turbinado Sugar (added last 5 minutes of boil)
  • 2 oz - Magnum Bittering Hops (60 mins)
  • 1 oz - Amarillo Hops (20 mins)
  • 1 oz - Amarillo Hops (1 min)
  • 1 oz - Amarillo Hops (dry hop after 4 days in primary)
  • 1 oz - Amarillo Hops (dry hop in secondary after 7 days in primary)
  • 1 - Whirlfloc tablet last 5 mins of boil
  • Safale US-05 Yeast pitched at 75 degrees

Additional Instructions

Primary Ferment: 7 Days
Secondary Ferment: 7 Days

Original Gravity: 1.075
Final Gravity: 1.012

Procedure:

Mash all grains at 152 F for 60 mins
I did a batch sparge and collected about 7.5 gallons in boil kettle.

Boiled at high heat to bring volume down to about 5.5 gallons after an hour. Did my hop additions as I show above in the ingredients list.

Tastes great in the bottle, even better after a month...
