Robust Porter


Slightly bitter, slighty sweet, barely any taste of hops, chocolately porter. Deep and dark, nice mouth feel, creamy head with awesome lacing. This is a 2 gallon brew.


  • 2.6lbs Crosby & Baker Weyerman Pale Ale RBC 6.5, Lovibond 3.0
  • 6.2oz muich malt
  • 1.5 oz Brewcraft Briess Crystal Malt
  • 6oz honey,
  • 1.2oz black malt
  • 1.6 oz chocolate malt
  • .36 oz Northern Brewer 7.2%
  • .2oz 3% Cascade pellets - boil hops
  • .2oz Cascade pellets - finishing hops
  • British Ale Yeast - Savale S-04
  • 1/2 c brown sugar

Mashing - 1 gal water plus grains and honey for 30min @133F,
Added 2 qts boiling water for 45 min to get to 155 F.
Raise to 158F for 20 min finish at 167F at end
Sparge with 5 qts at 170.

Boil for 15 min, add boil hops for 58 min, add aroma hops for 2 min.
Warm yeast to 90 degees F in 1/4c water.
Cool wort to 68 degrees F and pitch yeast.

Ferment 2 weeks at 70 degrees F, in 2 one gallon jugs with blowoff tubes. You will lose about 2 cups total and have to watch for hops clogging the tubes.
Use 1/2 c brown sugar in 1/2 c water while racking
Bottle 2 weeks at 50-60 degrees F.
Open, try not to drink it all in one sitting.
Makes about 20 bottles.
