American IPA

Description:

This recipes was designed as an easy imperial hop bomb that utilizes the Falconer's Flight hop blend. Medium amber color, assertive malt and a nice, hoppy finish.

Ingredients:

  • 6 lbs light LME
  • 4 lbs Pale 2- row malt
  • 1/2 lb Cara Pils malt
  • 1/2 lb Crystal 75L malt
  • 0.5 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- 60 min
  • 0.5 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- 45 min
  • 0.5 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- 30 min
  • 0.5 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- 20 min
  • 1 Whirlfloc Tablet - 15 min
  • 1 Servomyces Yeast Nutrient - 10 min
  • 0.5 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- 10 min
  • 0.5 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- 5 min
  • 2.0 oz Falconer's Flight Pellet hops- Dry Hop
  • Wyeast #1099 Whitbread Ale Yeast smack pack

Additional Instructions

Primary Ferment: 5 Days @ 68 degrees F
Secondary Ferment: 10 Days on 2 oz. of Hop Pellets @ 68 degrees F

Procedure:

Smack the yeast pack to activate the yeast.

1. Bring 2 gallons of water to 160 degrees F, steep the grains for 30 minutes.

2. Sparge grains with 1 gallon of 185 degree F water. Bring the mash to a boil.

3. Kill flame, add the LME and stir it into solution, making sure none is stuck to the bottom.

4. Return the wort to a boil. Boil for 15 minutes, add hops in the schedule above.

5. Add water until temperature adjusted OG reached. Cool wort to 68 degrees and pitch the yeast. Transfer to primary.
