Extra Special/Strong Bitter (English Pale Ale)

Description:

bitter and dry in flavor with a very slight citrus taste. light orange brown in color. Maybe not a traditional ESB but I made sure to use english ingrediants. the burton yeast was recommended by a worker at the ballast point brewery. they used it originally on their calico.

Ingredients:

  • 6# light dme
  • 1# amber dme
  • 1# crystal malt 40l
  • .5# victory malt
  • .5# honey malt
  • 1.5oz fuggles (60min)
  • .5oz east kent goldings (30min)
  • .5oz east kent goldings (5min)
  • .25oz curasao (30min)
  • .25oz curasao (15min)
  • 1 tablet irish moss (15min)
  • 1 viel burton ale yeast (wlp023)
  • .9 cup of corn sugar (priming)

Primary Ferment: 2 weeks

Procedure:

put grains in cold water and bring to a boil. remove grains. add extract and hops at different stages. cool, add to fermenter and pitch yeast.
