Beer Style: Robust Porter
(12B)
Recipe Type: all-grain
Yield: 5 US gallons
I brew one gallon batches right now, while I wait for winter to build me a natural cooler for my wort. (Yay Canada!) I will update when I try a 5 gallon batch for this.
The original gravity surprised me, as I expected a bit lower. I think the pumpkin kicked it up a bit. In future batches, I would also probably drop the nutmeg, as it and the allspice together may be a bit overwhelming.
The nice thing about 1 gallon batches is they don't need too long in their fermenter; usually only a week or two. Still, with this recipe it is a good idea to let it age once bottled, to let some of the flavors mellow.
Finally, as an extra touch, you can use maple syrup instead of corn sugar to prime. Just remember that syrup is a bit watery, so a tad more than you may usually use for sugars. Not too much more though.
