Started out to make a black IPA, not sure what to call it now, very nice flavors due to the chocolate and coffee but yet still bitter as an IPA should be...


  • Hops:
  • 2 oz Green Bullet (12.8%) Bittering
  • 1 oz Pacific Jade (15.2%) Flavoring
  • 1 oz Cascade (6.7%) Aroma
  • Malts:
  • Plain Dark (DME) 3lbs
  • Plain Wheat (DME) 1lb
  • Liquid dark (LME) 3lbs
  • Grains:
  • Caramel 80L 1LB
  • Chocolate 1LB

Additional Instructions

Primary Ferment: 5 days
Secondary Ferment: 8 days

Original Gravity: 1.055
Final Gravity: 1.018
Alcohol by Vol: 4.84%

Heat 2.5 gallon water
Steeps grains for 20 minutes
Add malts, bring to rolling boil
Add Bittering hops for 40 minutes
Add Flavoring hops for 15 minutes
Add Aroma Hops 5 minutes
Cool down till around 75f, top of to 4.5 gallon, add dry yeast.
1st fermenter 5 days, second fermenter 8 days, when transferring to 2nd, add 16oz coffee to carboy
