American IPA

Description:

Hoppy bite with a clean hop finish, but not overpowering. Lower FG and ABV than normal IPA, but refreshing.

Ingredients:

  • 6 lbs Pale DME
  • 1/2 lb Crystal 90L
  • 2 oz Chinook (11.9%) at 60 minutes
  • 2 oz US Goldings (4.4%) at 15 minutes
  • 1 oz US Goldings (4.4%) at 5 minutes
  • English Ale Yeast (WLP002)

Procedure:

Steep cracked Crystal malt at 155 degrees for half hour in 3 gallons water, remove bag and bring to boil. Wait for hot break, add first hop addition. Time boil for 45 mins, add first flavoring hops. Wait 10 mins, add last hop addition. Add to 3 gallons boiled and cooled water in fermenter. Cool wort to 80 degrees, pitch yeast. Primary ferment 2 weeks, bottle and condition 3 weeks.
