American Pale Ale


An old family recipe of my Danish Grandmother who made it at Christmas time. Not a Gourme recipe.


  • 2 Qts Barley
  • 2 pkgs of yeast (bakers yeast)
  • 4-6 cups sugar
  • 5 gallons water

Wash and brown barley. Fill bucket to 2 inches from top (5 gallon bucket). Put barley in cheese cloth bag, tie and put in water. Boil until water is colored or brown. Cool to luke warm. Dissolve yeast in water, add sugar. Stir and let stand until fermented. Seal and put in cool place. *To make 1/2 recipe, add sugar to taste and 1/2 the yeast.
