American Brown Ale

Description:

A dark, rich brown ale with a light hop aroma with a delicious balanced flavor.

Ingredients:

  • 6.6 lbs Muntons Amber Malt Extract Syrup
  • 1 lb. 20-80 Lovibond crystal/caramel malt
  • 8 oz. chocolate malt
  • 2 oz. Cascade Hops (boiling)
  • 1 oz. Goldings Hops (flavor)
  • .5 oz Northern Brewer Hops (aroma)
  • 1 pkg. (11 g.) Fermentis Safale s-05 American ale yeast
  • 3/4 Cup corn sugar for priming

Additional Instructions

Primary Ferment: 12 days.

Procedure:

Add crushed crystal and chocolate malts to 2 gallons of 150-160 degree Fahrenheit water for 30 minutes. Remove the grains. Add malt extract, and boiling hops. Boil for 30 minutes. Add flavor hops and boil for an additional 30 minutes. Turn off heat. Add aroma hops and them let steep for 3 minutes. Add 3 Gallons of cold water to Carboy. Add wort to Carboy. Pitch yeast when cool. Wait 12 -14 days. Bottle and wait another 10 - 14 days. Enjoy! I recommend using boiling bags to make life easier.
