American Pale Ale

Description:

Don't let the simplisity of this Ale fool you. Basic brewing at it's absolute finest!!! Wonderful golden color, fruity aroma and very malty. I almost didn't brew this, what a surprise! So simple my 12 year old could have done it...well he helped.

Ingredients:

  • 6 lbs Light DME
  • 1 Lbs Crystal - American 60L
  • 1 oz. Horizon Hopps (@ 60min)
  • 1 oz. Amarillo Hopps (@ 10min)
  • 1/2 Tab whirlflock (@10 min)
  • Safale US-05 American Dry Ale Yeast
  • 3/4 cups corn sugar boiled in 1 qt of water to prime

Primary Ferment: 1 week
Secondary Ferment: 2 weeks

Procedure:

Using a grain bag steep the Crystal Malt for 30 minutes in 1.5 gal water at 155 F, remove grain bag. Add DME and bring to a boil, add Horizon hopps and boil for 60 minutes. @ the 30 minute mark sparge grains with an additional 2 quarts of boiling water. @ 10 Minutes add the Amarillo Hopps and Whirlflock or your clarifier of choice. Cool wort to 85 F and add to 3 gal of water in the primary. Optional dry hopp with cascade if you like.
