Beer Style: Brown Ale,Fruit Beer,Mild Ale
Recipe Type: partial mash
Description:
Beer Style: American Red Ale
First Beer I Invented-
Beautiful American Red, color is perfect and the Carapils holds the head like a champ. I might try adding a stronger bittering hop, but the hallerteau is a great finisher.
Clean and smooth from start to finish- You can smell the apple in the head, but the taste is so subtle its almost not there, so I wouldn't classify this a "Fruit Beer". Just a lovely, daily drinker.
Ingredients:
  • * 1 Lb Carapils
  • * 6 Lb Amber Malt Extract
  • * 2 Oz. Hallerteau Pellet Hops
  • * 1 Granny Smith Apple
  • * Muntons Dry Yeast
OG: NA FG: NA
Primary Ferment: 8 Days
Secondary Ferment: NA
Procedure:
Normal brew procedure- Steep grains 45-60 minutes, add extract and 1 oz hops, boil 55 minutes. Add aroma hops for 5 minutes. Cool wort and pitch yeast. Core apple, dice it up (the smaller the better) and drop it in the fermenter. I kegged on Day 8 (@50 PSI) and started drinking day 10.
Note: I left the hops in this brew for the full fermentation ( I do not bag up the hops- just plunk them in the boil)- I recommend the same.
